Here in Singapore, the QR code became the ubiquitous symbol of 2020 – at every physical location, we had to scan a code to register our presence as part of the country’s effort to combat COVID-19. In a year where space is constrained and time is strange, people are lonely; in the digital cacophony we long to be found in real time. When our physical world shrinks, the metaphysical expands.
